Q.1. Who are the Sponsors of UTM?
UTM is sponsored by Hydrocarbons Education and Research Society (HERS) - a well known non-profit society formed under the Societies Registration XXI Act of 1860 (Registration No. S-41894 of 2002). Promoted by a group of professionals from private, government and international organizations, HERS has impressive credentials in having established successfully the following Institutions:
i) Indian School of Petroleum & energy (2001))
ii) University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun (2003)
iii) Energy Institute (India) (2005)
UTM is the latest endeavour of HERS to extend the benefit of quality professional education.

Q.2. How has the University been established?
UTM has been established under “University of Technology Act, 2010” (No.3 of 2011) legislated by Meghalaya Assembly in accordance with section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956.
The Act is notified in Gazette of Meghalaya vide No LL (B) 47/2010/19 Dt. 04 January 2011.

Q.3. Is the University recognized by UGC? Are the UTM courses recognized?
Yes, having been set up in accordance with section 2(f) of the UGC Act, the University has UGC recognition.

Q.4. Has UTM been approved by AICTE? Is there any such requirement?
As ruled by the Hon’ble Supreme Court (in the case of Bharatidasan University v/s AICTE), Universities established under a State or a Central Act under Section 2(f) or under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, do not require AICTE approval to start professional & technical courses.

Q.5. Does the Sponsor (HERS) have the experience of establishing & managing industry-specific institutions?

BBA Programs are offered by UTM
(i) BBA Hospitality, Travel & Tourism
(ii) BBA Digital Marketing
BBA programs:
Eligibility: Overall minimum 45% marks at Higher & Senior Secondary Level (10th & 12th) and applicants need to attend Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

Q.8. What are the various Career options I can choose after completing BBA Hospitality, Travel & Tourism ?
BBA Hospitality, Travel and Tourism – Tourism in India is not only the largest service industry but also the most profitable industry. This program will provide high quality trained man power to Travel, Tourism & Hospitality industry.

Career Options - Administration, Reservations, holiday consultant, tour planning, sales & marketing, foreign exchange in any of the following sectors – Tourism Department, Immigration & Customs, Travel Agencies / Tour Operators, Airlines , Hotels and many more.

Q.9. What are the various career options I can choose after completing B.Tech in Cloud computing and Virtualization ?
(i) Cloud computing & Virtualization – The next wave of computing is cloud! Businesses are increasingly opting to do without the complexity of managing data centers (having local servers or personal devices to handle applications) and instead focus on their core competencies. This means that more and more business will adopt cloud computing (internet based computing) as a means to handle their IT requirements, thereby giving them freedom from the day-to-day management of their IT infrastructure.
With a huge potential market and requirement of professionals, this program throws opens entirely new option for the students. With emergence of this technology, many new jobs are being created with leading technology in consulting firms all over the world.
Career Options - Cloud Solution Architects, Cloud System Administration, Cloud Security Specialist, Cloud Application Developer/Maintenance /Testing, Migration & Modernization Specialists & Cloud Project Management.

Q.10. Will the degree awarded by UTM makes students eligible for higher & further studies?
Yes, very much. As the University is established under a State Act of Meghalaya, legislated by Meghalaya Assembly in accordance with Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, thus the courses offered are fully recognized. Students after pursuing a degree from UTM are eligible to apply to any national or international institute/college/University for higher & further studies.

Q.11. Will UTM have campus recruitment facility?
Yes, the University will extend placement assistance to graduating students through campus recruitments. For this, the University has a dedicated Placement Cell which assists students in getting appropriate placements upon completion of their study. The Cell maintains liaison with various Companies on a regular basis to have them visit the campus for placements.

Q.12. Will I get a bank loan to pursue my education at UTM? Does UTM have any tie-up with nationalized / private bank?
Yes, all nationalized banks offer education loan facility to bonafide students for pursuing higher education.

To facilitate this, UTM, has a formal tie-up with India's leading nationalized bank - Oriental Bank of Commerce for extending education loan to its students, which generally covers expenses like Course Fee, Hostel fee, etc.

Q.13. Are there any Reservations/Quota of seats for admission to UTM?
15% seats in each program are reserved for Meghalaya domiciled candidates and another 15% seats for domiciled candidates from other north-eastern states, subject to fulfilling family income & other criteria. 3% seats are reserved for differently abled (physically challenged) candidates.
Admission in UTM is merit based. However, SC/ST/OBC candidates are allowed 5% relaxation in eligibility criteria in programmes like BA, BBA & MBA.

Q.14. What leverage /value advantage do we get as a student of UTM?
The objective of the University is to provide quality professional education based on contemporary curriculum with latest features like semester system, continuous internal assessment (to monitor the progress of students), instructor-led evaluation and grading system, etc. Apart from class room study, students (both graduate and post graduate) will get to learn from guest lectures by leading industry professionals, gain extensive industry exposure through project work and on-site internship – all of which will equip the students with the required employability skills to acquire gainful employment in their chosen field of study. i) UTM is a self-financed State Private University with no govt. grants. As such, the course fee is the main source of meeting substantially high investment cost for creating physical infrastructure, learning resources like well equipped library, IT & technology labs/workshops, classrooms with modern communication technologies, engaging highly qualified, competent & well paid faculty, etc.

ii) Though a new University, UTM is backed by the vast expertise, extensive resource base and mentoring of UPES - another successful endeavour of same sponsor (HERS). This gives UTM a head start as compared to other new Universities.

iii) UTM only offers cutting-edge professional programmes having strong industry focus thereby improving the job prospects of our students.
