Q.1.Who is the Sponsor of MIT University?

Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), Pune is the first private Engineering Institute established in the city of Pune, Maharashtra. Q.2. How has the University been established?

MIT University has been established under “University of Technology Act, 2010” (No.3 of 2011) legislated by Meghalaya Assembly in accordance with section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956.  The Act is notified in Gazette of Meghalaya vide No LL (B) 47/2010/19 Dt. 04 January 2011.

Q.3. Is the University recognized by UGC? Are the MIT University courses recognized?

Yes, having been set up in accordance with section 2(f) of the UGC Act, the University has UGC recognition.

Q.4. Has MIT University been approved by AICTE? Is there any such requirement?

As ruled by the Hon’ble Supreme Court (in the case of Bharatidasan University v/s AICTE), Universities established under a State or a Central Act under Section 2(f) or under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, do not require AICTE approval to start professional & technical courses.

Q.6.Which B.Tech Programs are offered by MIT University & what are their admission requirements?

MIT University offers B. Tech programs in

(i) Computer Science & Engineering
a. Computer Science & Engineering in academic collaboration with IBM, with the following specializations:

  • Cloud Computing and Virtualization Technology
  • Oil and Gas Informatics
Please note that the above specializations are not offered to students seeking admission from academic year 2017-18 onwards.

(ii) Civil Engineering 
(iii) Mechanical Engineering 
(iv) Electrical and Electronics Engineering
(v) Petroleum Engineering

Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM) at Senior/Higher School Certificate Examination (12th)
  • JEE / MIT University Scholastic Test score

Q.7.Which BBA Programs are offered by MIT University & what is their admission requirement?

MIT University offers BBA Programs in

(i) Hospitality, Travel & Tourism

(ii) Marketing

(iii) Finance

(iv) Retail

  Minimum 45% Marks at Secondary School Examination (10th) and Senior/Higher School Certificate Examination (12th)


Eligible students are called for the Personal Interview. Students are offered admission on the basis of their performance in Personal Interview.

Q.8. . What are the various career options I can choose after completing BBA Hospitality, Travel & Tourism ?

BBA Hospitality, Travel and Tourism – Tourism in India is not only the largest service industry but also the most profitable industry. This program will provide high quality trained man power to Travel, Tourism & Hospitality industry.

Career Options - Administration, Reservations, holiday consultant, tour planning, sales & marketing, foreign exchange in any of the following sectors – Tourism Department, Immigration & Customs, Travel Agencies / Tour Operators, Airlines , Hotels and many more. 

Q.9. Will the degree awarded by MIT University makes students eligible for higher & further studies?

Yes, very much. As the University is established under a State Act of Meghalaya, legislated by Meghalaya Assembly in accordance with Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, thus the courses offered are fully recognized. Students after pursuing a degree from MIT University are eligible to apply to any national or international institute/college/University for higher & further studies. 

Q.10. Will MIT University have campus recruitment facility?

Yes, the University will extend placement assistance to graduating students through campus recruitments. For this, the University has a dedicated Placement Cell which assists students in getting appropriate placements upon completion of their study. The Cell maintains liaison with various Companies on a regular basis to have them visit the campus for placements.


Q.11. Will I get a bank loan to pursue my education at MIT University? Does MIT University have any tie-up with nationalized / private bank?

Yes, all nationalized banks offer education loan facility to bonafide students for pursuing higher education.

To facilitate this, MIT University, has a formal tie-up with India's leading nationalized bank - Oriental Bank of Commerce for extending education loan to its students, which generally covers expenses like Course Fee, Hostel fee, etc.

Q.12. Are there any Reservations/Quota of seats for admission to MIT University?

15% seats in each program are reserved for Meghalaya domiciled candidates and another 15% seats for domiciled candidates from other north-eastern states, subject to fulfilling family income & other criteria. 3% seats are reserved for differently abled (physically challenged) candidates.

Admission in MIT University is merit-based. However, SC/ST/OBC candidates are allowed 5% relaxation in eligibility criteria in programs like B. Tech and BBA.

ii)Though a new University, MIT University is backed by the vast expertise, extensive resource base and mentoring of MIT Group of Institutions. This gives MIT University a head start as compared to other new Universities.
